Chonburi Chonburi (Thai: ชลบุรี, RTGS: chonburi, [tɕ͡ʰōn bū.rīː] ) is the capital of Chonburi Province and Mueang Chonburi District in Thailand. It's about 100 km north of Bangkok, on the shore of the Gulf of Thailand. Its name means 'city of water'.

Chonburi, Together with other areas along the shore to Pattaya, creates a conurbation. Chonburi has had town (thesaban mueang) status since 1935.
