Brief information about the Port Moresby

Port Moresby Port Moresby (; Tok Pisin: Pot Mosbi), also referred to as Pom City or simply Moresby, is the capital and Biggest city of Papua New Guinea and the largest Town in the South Pacific outside of Australia and New Zealand. It is located on the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea's south-western shore, on the shores of the Gulf of Papua.

The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. It was a prime objective for conquest during 1942-43 as a staging point and air base from the Japanese forces.

In 2000 it had a population of 254,158. As of 2011, it had a population of 364,145, giving it an annual growth rate of 2.1percent over a nine-year period. The individuals for centuries have inhabited the place. The first Briton was Captain John Moresby in 1873.

It was named in honour of the father. It is not a part of that state, but forms the National Capital District, although Central Province, where it is the capital surrounds Port Moresby. The Motu Koita Assembly, represents the Koitabu and Motu people, the landowners.

Port Moresby hosted the APEC summit in November 2018. There were worries regarding security given the capital's reputation for violent crime.
