Multan Multan (مُلتان; [mʊltaːn] ) is a town in Punjab, Pakistan. Multan is Pakistan largest town, also is the major cultural and economic center of Punjab. Multan's history stretches deep into antiquity.
The city was the site of this renowned Multan Sun Temple, and was surrounded by Alexander the Great through the Mallian Campaign. Multan was one of the most important trading centres of medieval Islamic India and attracted a profusion of Sufi mystics from the 11th and 12th centuries, making the city the nickname City of Saints.
The town is famous for its large number of Sufi shrines dating from that era.
