Brief information about the Kano
Kano Kano is the capital Town of Kano State in North West. It's situated in the Sahelian geographic region, south of the Sahara. Kano is the 2nd largest city in Nigeria and is the nerve center of Northern Nigeria. The Kano metropolis originally covered 137 square kilometres (53 square miles) and included six local government areas (LGAs) -- Kano Municipal, Fagge, Dala, Gwale, Tarauni and Nasarawa; However, it covers two extra LGAs -- Ungogo and Kumbotso.
The total area of Metropolitan Kano has become 499 square kilometres (193 square miles), with a population of 2,828,861 as of this 2006 Nigerian census; the latest official estimate (for 2016) is 3,931,300. This city's main inhabitants would be the Hausa people.
There are several who speak Fulani language. As in most parts of northern Nigeria, the Hausa language is spoken in Kano. The town is the capital of this Kano Emirate. Aminu Ado Bayero, the current emir, was enthroned on 09 following the previous emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was deposed.
The Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, the main airport serving northern Nigeria of the town , was named after politician Aminu Kano.
