Brief information about the Beirut
No current population census has been conducted, but 2007 estimates ranged from slightly greater than 1 million to 2.2 million within Greater Beirut, making it the third-largest town in the Levant region and the fifteenth-largest in the Arab world. Situated on a peninsula in the midpoint of the Mediterranean shore of Lebanon , Beirut is an important seaport.
It's among the oldest cities in the world, having been inhabited for more than 5,000 decades. The first mention of Beirut is located from the New Kingdom of Egypt, which dates to the 15th century BC in the Amarna letters. Beirut is currently the seat of government of Lebanon and plays a role in the economy, with corporations based in Achrafieh, Badaro, Rue Verdun, Hamra, Ryad el Soleh road, and its Central District and most banks.
Following the destructive Civil War, Beirut landscape underwent significant reconstruction. Identified and rated for law, advertising, banking, finance and accountancy, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network ranks as a Beta World City Beirut.
