Few Words About Kiribati

Lagoon waters and white sandy beaches characterise the Republic of Kiribati, which is made up of over 30 coral islands. Kiribati is distant, and the tourism industry remains very much in its infancy -- all the more reason to see sooner rather than later.

They could be unknown, but the isles are peppered with swaying oceans, and palms, swathed in breezes. And therefore it's difficult to feel anything besides holiday escapism. Kiribati has an interesting population of wildlife and human whilst lazing on bare beaches is a draw.

Other islands include Line, Phoenix and Gilbert -- throughout British rule at the 20th and 19th centuries, Kiribati was known as the Gilbert Islands. Even though UK and the US used Christmas island in World War II, the islands were occupied by Japan. The islands eventually became independent.

Despite Kiribati's colonial history, many of its islands have remained as they've ever been. Fish breadfruit and coconuts resides off. The folks of the main island Tarawa continue to reside in huts such as their ancestors.

You shouldn't fear a separation from civilisation, but as pubs, cinemas, cars and the internet are a part of life in Kiribati. The folks are unwelcoming, but you are more likely to be greeted by the children than adults, who are likely to eye people. Once the ice breaks, you will stumble upon a fascinating civilization, and plenty of character to explore.

The tiny nation is simply 800 kilometers sq, but if you include the many atolls, this climbs to a 3.5 million kilometers square-swathe of the Pacific. Better get the swimming decoration.
