Brief information about the Akureyri
It's the town out the heavily populated southwest corner of Iceland , and Iceland 's fourth biggest municipality, after Hafnarfjörður, Reykjavík and Kópavogur. Akureyri is fishing centre and an important port.
The area where Akureyri is located was settled in the 9th century but did not obtain a charter until 1786. The town was the site of units during World War II. Further growth happened after the war as the population increasingly moved to urban locations.
The region has a comparatively mild climate because of geographical elements, and also the ice-free harbour of the town has played a significant role in its own history.
