You need a visa on arrival to travel to these countries if you are a Hong Kong Citizen

Are you thinking of going on holiday? Perhaps you have to travel for work? Whatever your reason, it is important to check the visa requirements for your destination country.

What does a visa on arrival mean?

A visa on arrival (VOA) means that you do not need to worry about applying for a visa before travelling to a country. Instead, you will need to obtain one upon arrival at your destination. This will often involve a fee and must be completed before you pass through immigration and enter the country.

Are there any restrictions?

The answer to this question will depend on the country you are travelling to. It is highly likely that the destination country will place restrictions on your ability to work, study or stay for a certain period of time. It is important to check this as they do vary, with some countries allowing you to stay anywhere from 30 days to 6 months and sometimes more.

Our advice

The first piece of advice is to do your research about your destination country and their requirements for a Hong Kong citizen. Take the time to check our list of visa on arrival countries and from there, do some extra leg work to make sure you will have everything you need including documentation and money to pay the fee.

Secondly, please be aware that in some countries, this process can be quite time-consuming. It is not uncommon to have to wait a few hours to complete your visa application when you arrive, so build this into your itinerary for transport from the airport.

Finally, regularly check back for any changes in the lead up to your journey. Countries can make changes to their visa rules and regulations at the last minute and you don’t want to find out when it’s too late. We will always provide updates when they happen, to help you travel with confidence and peace of mind.
