Rémire-Montjoly

Brief information about the Rémire-Montjoly

Remire-Montjoly (often unofficially spelled Rémire-Montjoly) is a commune of French Guiana, an international region and section of France situated on the northeast coast of South America. Remire-Montjoly is a suburb of Cayenne, the capital préfecture and largest city of French Guiana.

It is situated to the south-west of Cayenne. Residential districts are located along some of the best beaches in the Cayenne area. The port of Dégrad des Cannes, French and cayenne Guiana seaport, is located in the commune of Remire-Montjoly, on the Mahury River's estuary.

All of French Guiana's imports and exports pass through the port of Dégrad des Cannes. The commune was known as Remire, but the name was changed to Remire-Montjoly to signify the development of Montjoly.

The settlements of Montjoly and Remire and Cayenne have now fused into a single metropolitan area. Remire-Montjoly stays a commune that's administratively independent from the commune of Cayenne.
