Kisangani

Brief information about the Kisangani

Kisangani (formerly Stanleyville or Stanleystad) is the capital of Tshopo State in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It's the third largest city in the biggest of the cities that lie at the Congo's tropical woodlands and the country.

Some 1300 mi from the mouth of the Congo River, Kisangani is the farthest navigable point upstream. Kisangani is a major promotion and distribution centre, an important hub point for land and river transport and the nation important inland port following Kinshasa to the north-eastern part of the country.

It's been the industrial capital of the northern Congo since the 19th century.
